Charging curve

Maximum power the Kona Electric accepts at each state of charge. The curve drops sharply above 80%, which is why most rapid-charging sessions end there.

About this battery

The Hyundai Kona Electric's charging behaviour above is derived from its cell chemistry and pack architecture using our own model — not copied from a third-party test database. Here's what's inside the pack and why it produces the curve you see.

Second-generation Kona Electric. Although Hyundai-Kia's flagship EVs use SK On 800V cells, the Kona uses a 400V pack with LG NMC 622 pouch cells and a deliberately conservative BMS calibration that caps peak DC at 100kW. Optimised for range and durability rather than rapid charging.
